SUNBURY - The city will host two sessions of swim lessons at the Sunbury Youth and Community Pool Memorial Drive: from Monday, June 24, to Friday, July 5, (there will be class on July 4), and from Monday, July 8, to Friday, July 19. Level 1 to 6 classes are broken down into 3 sessions: 9 to 9:45 a.m., 10 to 10:45 a.m. and 11 to 11:45 a.m.
Preschool students must be at least 3 years old and potty trained. Class size is limited to the first 10 preschool students.
The cost for students in the Shikellamy School District is $20 for those who pre-register; cost is $25 for those who register the first day of class. For those outside of the Shikellamy School District, the cost is $30 and $35 respectively.
Lifeguard
The city is also hosting lifeguard training from June 10 to June 28. Water skill training will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 10 to June 21 at Mountain View Bible Camp in Snydertown. Land skill training (first aid and CPR training) will be held June 24 to June 28 at the Sunbury Youth and Community Pool, Memorial Drive; time will be announced.
The cost is $100 and includes the training, mask and book.
Participants must be 15 years old by the completion of the course.
Guard Start
Guard Start, a program that provides a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge attitudes and skills preparing youth for future and successful completion of lifeguard training, is also available in Sunbury this summer.
Participants must be 12 years old and must have completed level 5 of water safety/swim lessons.
Training will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. July 8 to July 19 at Sunbury Community Pool.
Attendance at all classes is mandatory in order to pass the class.
Registration fee is $50.
