MILTON - Applications for enrollment in early childhood education programs in Northumberland County are now being accepted for the 2013-14 school year.
Early Head Start provides comprehensive education, nutrition and other health services for children from birth to age 3, as well as for expectant mothers. Services are provided in the home or at the Early Head Start Center, Stonington.
Head Start and Pre-K Counts are programs for preschool children that focus on school readiness and a positive transition to kindergarten. Programs are available to 3, 4 and 5-year olds who are not yet enrolled in school. These programs also serve children with disabilities, coordinating services with other agencies to meet all needs of the child, and provide services within an inclusive setting.
Head Start centers are located throughout Northumberland County, and Pre-K Counts classes are available to residents of Line Mountain, Milton Area and Shikellamy school districts.
These early childhood education programs are available at no cost to parents. Meals are provided for those enrolled in center- and classroom-based programs.
While there is no transportation provided for Pre-K Counts participants, limited transportation is available for those enrolled in Early Head Start and Head Start.
Income guidelines apply to these early childhood education programs. Parents who are recently unemployed may be eligible. All interested parents are encouraged to apply. First consideration is given to lower-income families.
