COAL TOWNSHIP - The Shamokin Area School Board met Tuesday, with directors voting to:
- Withhold payment of scheduled Act 93 payments to district administrators pending further board review;
- Acknowledge receipt of its annual audit which will be filed at Northumberland County Courthouse;
- Accept reports from district tax collectors and direct Berkheimer Associates and Northumberland County Tax Claims to pursue delinquent tax payments;
- Renew district retirees' health benefits with Capital Blue Cross for 2013-14, which includes a 28.73 percent increase for contributions made by retirees;
- Permit Salvation Army to pay $100 to use the high school gym for its annual basketball tournament, a reduction from the district's $475 fee;
- Name Karen Colangelo, federal programs coordinator and newly appointed business manager, as the district's Right to Know and HIPPA officer, among other delegations;
- Waive the cost to transport a child to Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School for its K-4 program, which is not presently offered at Shamokin Area;
- Advertise for seven teaching positions for 2013 summer school, along with the head coaching position for boys and girls cross country;
- Approve Randy Kehler, Ted Pietkiewicz, Matt Rhodes and Kurt Troxell to the varsity football coaching staff, with salaries to be determined;
- Adjust salaries for track and field coaches: Mike Rodgers, head coach, $2,503 (from $1,428); Sam Schiccatano, assistant, $1,782 ($1,428); Kurt Troxel, assistant, volunteer, ($1,428);
- Name Allen Fry, George Gredzinski and Steve Shorter as volunteer junior high baseball coaches;
- Approve medical leave for Darren Dusick, high school mathematics teacher, and Christine Hockenbroch, learning support teacher;
- Hire Nicholas Boslego as a part-time custodian at 5 hours a day, 260 days a year, with compensation at $7.25 an hour, and approve Paul Quincy as student custodian at $7.25 an hour for up to three hours daily;
- Accept the resignation from Connie Boyer as varsity club adviser retroactive to Feb. 20;
- Add Lindsey Bell, Luther Haupt and Robert Eby to the professional substitute list and Shawn Shuts to the non-instructional substitute list;
- Increase Sol Bidding's contracted time from three to four hours a week serving as security on an as-needed basis at the elementary building.
