SHAMOKIN - The opening reception for "A Pot-Pourri of Colors" art exhibit by Claude Harrington will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Northumberland County Council for the Arts and Humanities (NCCAH) Fine Art Gallery at 2 E. Arch St.

Harrington's passion for painting began during her childhood in Paris. She has studied and worked with teachers of various techniques, including Bob Ross, and she is a Certified Ross Instructor (CRU). She works in all manners of media: oil, watercolor gouache and pen/ink.

In addition to her long running exhibits at the Demarest Hill Winery in Warwick, N.Y., her work is on display at Arta Trattoria Restaurant in Ringwood, N.J.

Harrington presented her work in a one-woman show in Bald Eagle Village, West Milford, N.J. Her paintings took up an entire floor in a three-person art exhibit at the Atrium Art Gallery in Morristown, N.J., where she received high praise for the variety of her work. On certain occasions, the complete set of her 95 paintings - representing every department (section) of France - is exhibited. She has participated in the Hoboken Art and Music Festival in New Jersey each year since 2006. She has also participated in the Coal Heritage Art Festival in Shamokin.

Among her awards is the Lakeland Bank Award at the 2002 Ringwood Manor Association of the Arts 37th Annual Juried Exhibition in New Jersey. Claude participates at the St. Catherine of Bologna Juried Festival of the Arts in Ringwood, N.J., each year. She was awarded second place ribbons in 2005 and 2006, honorable mentions in 2007 and 2010 and a third place ribbon in 2010. She was one of three judges for that show in 2008 and 2009.

She is presently the gallery coordinator of the NCCAH Fine Arts Gallery.

The gallery is located inside the Northumberland County Arts Center at Eighth and Arch streets.

The exhibit runs through April 22. The gallery is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
