MOUNT CARMEL - A unique parent-teacher association (PTA) fundraiser is taking place at Mount Carmel Area (MCA) School District.

Joanne Risso, a published author and English as a Second Language teacher at MCA, will serve as an author-in-residence from March 27 to April 4, during which time she'll be signing her two children's books and providing an author discussion for grades kindergarten through sixth.

A $1 donation for every book pre-ordered by Friday will be given to the MCA elementary PTA. Cost is $9.99 per book. Order forms have been sent home with elementary students and are available in the office at both the elementary and high school.

The two books available are "In the Field" and "Over the Sea." These childhood stories include valuable morals for children to learn about the effects of their actions on the environment.

In addition to visiting schools, Risso has been invited to attend Book Expo America, a national event held in New York City, this summer. She will be there on June 1.

Risso was born and raised in Gippsland, Australia. After graduating from Deakin University with two bachelor degrees, she worked with children in Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and North America. She loves to tell and read stories to children.

Risso resides locally with her husband and four children.
