MOUNT CARMEL - The Elks Club students of the month at Mount Carmel Area were announced Thursday.
Student of the Month is senior Doug Cole, a son of Bill and Joan Cole, of Kulpmont. He is president of the senior high school marching band, a member of chorus, jazz band and Interact Club, and portrays "Eugene" in this year's high school musical, "Grease." He enjoys playing saxophone and guitar, exercising and hanging out with his friends. He plans to attend Bloomsburg University to major in music education.
Junior Student of the Month is Brianna Lutz, a daughter of Steve and Kathy Lutz, of Mount Carmel. She competes on the school's soccer, basketball, track and field teams, and is a member of the TV studio, stage crew, Interact Club and SADD. She has received the Merit Award, Junior High Pride Award and is a previous Elks Student of the Month winner. Her interests include sports, reading, art, hanging out with friends and playing the guitar. Her future plans are to join the U.S. Air Force.
Teenager of the Month is freshman Chantelle Skavery, a daughter of Gerald and Theresa Skavery, of Mount Carmel. Her activities include junior varsity football cheerleading, varsity cross-country, spring track and field, Odyssey of the Mind, choir and art club. She also is a member of the ensemble cast of "Grease." She was a previous Elks Teenager of the Month winner and has been named to the distinguished honor roll. Her interests include drawing, running and hanging out with friends and family. Her future plans are to attend a four-year college to major in supply chain management.
Junior Teenager of the Month is seventh-grader Evan Salamone, a son of Roxanne Yurkiewcz and Ernie Salamone. He resides in Kulpmont with his parents. He is an honor student, and his activities include baseball, basketball and golf. He loves the outdoors. His future plans are to be a pro golfer or to study sports medicine.
