DEN MAR GARDENS - Thomas Bator, of 133 Colorado Circle, will recieve a $50 gift certificate as the week-six winner in The News-Item Football Contest.
Bator correctly picked 10 out of 10 games. The absence of games in the K&S Distributors ad dropped last week's slate of games from 12 to 10.
Eight contestants correctly picked nine out of 10 games, with two entrants, Jim Boris, of 1024 W. Lynn St., Coal Township, and Jackie Adzema, of 228 W. Fourth St., Mount Carmel, coming the closest to the most points scored by a team in this week's games, with a guess of 56 points, which was closest to 63 points scored by Ohio State in their 63-38 win over Nebraska.
A random drawing determined Adzema earned second place and a $25 gift certificate for any of the contest's participating sponsors, and Boris third and a $15 gift certificate.
Other contestants that picked nine out of 10 games correct, but lost out because of the tiebreaker include: Gene Zurick, of 832 Center St., Coal Township; Bill Handerhan, of 1239 Scott St., Kulpmont; Bernie Kelly, of 163 Vermont Dr., Kulpmont; Adam Marcinek, of 1610 W. Arch St., Coal Township; Margie Schiccatano, of 1700 W. Sterling St., Coal Township, and Lesley Zawatski, of 1700 Sterling St., Coal Township.
Those contestants, along with the three winners, are entered in the $200 grand prize drawing.
Scores from last week's games were: Richmond 28, Villanova 17; Danville 42, Jersey Shore 14; Minersville 42, Jim Thorpe 22; Ohio State 63, Nebraska 38; Southern Columbia 50, Selinsgrove 21; Michigan 44, Purdue 13; Lewisburg 27, Montoursville 22; Shikellamy 48, Warrior Run 14; Milton 14, Shamokin 7; Penn State 39, Northwestern 28.
