Rt. 61 bridge work to start March 11
COAL TOWNSHIP - A $1.88 million bridge rehabilitation project on Route 61 at the north end of Tharptown is set to start the week of March 11.
Prime contractor Wolyniec Construction Inc. will remove a portion of the existing structure and build a new deck and parapets, paint the structural steel and construct new roadway approaches to the bridge over Shamokin Creek.
Traffic will be maintained but reduced to a single lane in each direction. Work is scheduled for completion by Nov. 1.
Free tax preparation available
SHAMOKIN - The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, available through Central Susquehanna Opportunities Inc., Shamokin, offers free tax preparation to low-and-moderate income individuals and families.
Volunteer tax preparers, trained and certified by the IRS, will prepare and e-file federal and state income tax returns at no cost. They are knowledgeable on tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit.
By filing returns electronically and in conjunction with direct deposit, a federal refund can be received in seven to 10 business days.
