This month, the Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce would like to inform the public and the business community about a few events that the chamber will be hosting in our region.

On Tuesday, March 19, the chamber will host representatives from Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital (G-SACH) for an update on their Shamokin campus at one of our monthly luncheons, which will be sponsored by G-SACH.

The chamber is pleased to host a free First Steps Pre-Business Workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Northumberland County Career and Technology Center, Coal Township. The workshop, sponsored by First Columbia Bank & Trust, and taught by the Bucknell Small Business Development Center, is designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs begin the process of successful business ownership. There will be information on evaluating business ideas, developing a business plan and exploring financing options.

For those who are interested, registration is required online at http://www.bucknell.edu/script/sbdc/seminars.asp. Or, call 577-1249 or e-mail SBDC@bucknell.edu.

Also on Wednesday, April 3, the chamber, Central Susquehanna Opportunities Inc. and Pennsylvania Careerlink Northumberland/Snyder/Union Counties have partnered to present our annual Job Fair. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Masser's Banquet Hall, Routes 487 and 61, Paxinos. We are always excited to host this quality event, connecting area employers and post-secondary schools with hundreds of potential employees and students from the central Pennsylvania region.

Our April luncheon will help our employers to recognize their hard-working staff at our staff recognition luncheon. It will be held at Brewser's SportsGrille, Coal Township, at noon Tuesday, April 25. PCI Insurance is the sponsor for this event.

One of the biggest events of the chamber year is our Annual Awards Dinner to be held on Thursday, April 25, at the Knights of Columbus hall, Independence and Rock streets in Shamokin's downtown. The Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize the outstanding contributions of our businesses and/or individuals during the past year at the awards dinner. We recognize the Member of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Community Pride Award and Elected Official of the Year.

(Sandy Winhofer is director of the Brush Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce. "Your Chamber" is published the first Sunday of each month.)
