Band festival at Knoebels Sunday
ELYSBURG - The 24th Mid-Penn Band Festival will be held at Knoebels Amusement Resort Sunday. The festival brings together musicians from community bands across central Pennsylvania. Two public concerts, one at 3 p.m. and another with a different program at 6 p.m., will be presented at the park band shell or a nearby covered site in the event of inclement weather.
The host band for 2012 is the Sunbury City Band. Director Tom Gegenheimer will serve as host conductor. Other participating bands include the Catawissa Military Band, Danville Community Ban, Macungie Band, the Bellefonte Community Band, the Repasz Band of Williamsport along with members from other area organizations. Each group furnishes from five to 20 players and a conductor who will direct a portion of the concerts. Between 70 and 85 players will perform in the two concerts, which will feature a variety of popular selections and traditional band music.
Area musicians not affiliated with any of the bands already performing are invited to participate by attending registration and rehearsal beginning at noon. Dress will be white shirts and black slacks.
Bulbs for All Seasons
SUNBURY - The Penn State Master Gardeners will present "Bulbs for All Seasons" workshop at Degenstein Community Library, 40 S. Fifth St., at 1 p.m. Saturday. There will be a PowerPoint presentation with 299 colorful slides on bulbs, rhizomes, corms, tubers and fleshy roots. Bagged bulbs will be for sale. Register for this program by calling 988-3950.
SASB to meet Sept. 11
COAL TOWNSHIP - The Shamokin Area School District's board of directors monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11. The work session begins at 7 p.m. in the board conference room, followed immediately by the voting meeting.
The district's Buildings and Grounds and Athletic Committees will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 in the board conference room.
