Military News: Ronald M. Bishop Jr.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ronald M. Bishop Jr., a grandson of Freda Boblick, of Trevorton, was promoted to the rank of captain in the United States Navy during a Sept. 4, 2012, ceremony at the Pentagon.

The promotion ceremony was presided over by Rear Admiral Althea Cotezee. Attendees included his wife, Pamela, children Andrew, 15, Abigail, 13, Amanda, 11, and Aaron, 7, and parents Ronald and Susan Bishop.

Bishop received his commission in the U.S. Navy in May 1991 upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy with a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, Bishop is a naval flight officer for the E-2C Hawkeye and is an aerospace engineering duty officer responsible for flight testing, production, and/or program management for the acquisition of new weapons systems for the Navy.

He is a graduate of the Naval Test Pilot School and Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a master's degree in space systems engineering. He has more than 2,000 flight hours in a dozen aircraft.

He resides in Warrenton, Va., and is assigned to the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command Space Field Activity in Chantilly, Va., where he is deputy director for mission control systems.
